The wooden items that I burn are of varying wood types which include pine, maple and mostly basswood. Depending on the complexity of the design, I first sketch out the design in pencil onto the wood to be burned. Next, I use my Colwood professional woodburning tool which allows me to burn or draw freehand into the wood at different levels of heat intensity for each wood type and the desired design effect. I have a variety of tips that allow me to adjust the best fitting tip for each unique design scenario. Next, portions of the design are stained different wood colored stains so that the pieces appear to have an inlaid wood appearance. After the stain is dry, each piece is varnished with either a satin, semi-gloss or high gloss finish, then sanded after the varnish has dried. Each piece is varnished and sanded several times to achieve a smooth to the touch finish quality. Lastly, in most cases, the inside bottom and inside lid of each box is then lined with black felt. I woodburn, but am not limited to, furniture, boxes, chests, crosses, plaques, trays, beads, frames, birdhouses, ornaments and wooden eggs. Select items are available for purchase. Custom orders are always welcomed.
